Crossing My Fingers……

In the next online live classes I will be changing things slightly so that the exercise class will be fast paced and heart racing fun plus a more cohesive connection for combinations and choreography for the dance class. In doing this I have found that the feedback that I have been getting from my free classes and instructional videos is really making a difference.
Keep them coming since the classes will be starting soon. I will be working on a bunch of things all at once since this book has been taking up so much time and has pushed me behind schedule. And that’s another short note I’d like to share with you. I am editing the last chapters of my book and the editing part which has been a major part of my life is what is taking the longest. I tend to write like I talk so sometimes the words made no sense whatsoever and I was left scratching my head a few times trying to figure out what I was talking about. If I can’t figure it out then I know you guys would look at it and think I was speaking in tongues.
Once I am finished with the 26th chapter I will be screaming my head off and doing the hippity hop dance! Hopefully this weekend will be the jamming party (which just might be only in my head) just wish you were all here with me to have some fun celebrating the feeling of finally being done. Two years and counting is a long time to write and I can’t wait to get the core finished.
Hopefully the next blog will be……..telling you all I’m finished with the book. Here’s goes crossing my fingers and knocking on wood it happens

Next week will be the end of our first 4 week “live” online classes and I have to say it has been a wonderful experience to be able to share dance with all of you. For the first time we were able to give class instruction to dancers all over the world many of whom informed us that there were no teachers in their vicinity. For me this was huge because I remember my first couple of years having no one in my area to teach me. It’s hard to keep up the discipline especially when you feel alone in your learning process. I am dedicated to reaching out to as many students and dancers as possible through the online classes so this problem can be alleviated.
I must admit to you all that in the beginning I was really nervous and I felt a huge responsibility to everyone taking my classes. I still feel the same way today except now I feel comfortable with all of you. It also occurred to me that I am in a way at the mercy of Murphy’s Law because anything can happen live. Daniel says it’s a lot like how TV was in the 50’s. This is definitely true because the behind the scenes antics are hysterically funny. I wish I had a camera behind me so you could all see Daniel crawling on the floor under the camera. He crawls towards the door at the start of class and he crawls back in towards the camera at the end of class. I have no clue how I hold a straight face……I think it’s just I’m so tired from all the dancing in class!
I will be starting up new classes that will be 4 weeks long with a short interval in between every month of classes so that I can set up a new curriculum for each of the following month of classes. So you will get an early bird notice of the classes especially those of you who took the 4 week classes prior. The classes will be on-going and the subject matter for each of the month long classes will be spread into many areas of belly dance. We are looking into different days for the next 4 weeks because we are catering to dancers from different time zones and I am thinking of including a belly dance aerobics class into the schedule. So as you can see we have a lot of changes coming up and we are ready to forge ahead with our plans.
A big “Thank You” to the dancers who joined me for class and thanks for supporting not only our business but our family!
Blessings,
Leyla

I know this is a long time coming and we (Daniel) have been working very hard on getting everything ready so we can make the classes as easy as possible for everybody. They are starting up next week on two different days; Tuesday the 25th and Thursday the 27th. These will be permanent days for the classes and you will have a chance to drop in a class or sign up for the 4 week series. There will be two different time frames for each day; 11:00am and 7:00pm Mountain Time. Adding to this I must say it was really interesting trying to figure out the classes in advance so that they would make sense. The class preparation took me awhile before I finalized what I was going to teach but I believe that the classes will be what everybody is hoping for. These “live” online classes are a dream come true for both Daniel and we are both thrilled that they are finally here!
Tuesday will be the type of drilling and dance class that I teach my students. We will go over hip work first with a variety of combinations, layering, accenting and pauses. I have taken the class into 4 weeks so that each class fits with the next one. The 4th class will be a review of the former 3 weeks so that questions can be answered in a way that makes it easier to demonstrate movements and explain any grey areas.
Thursday will be focused on the problems of small spaces in different venues like restaurants, parties and small dance floors. I will go over leg extensions, turns, sweeps and traveling steps that actually work in small spaces. I call these combinations, turns and extensions “In Place” movements. I’ll talk about working in close proximity with customers and how to work in all directions especially if you have tables all around you. Usage of space can make a difference in tips and making people feel more comfortable with your dance. This will also be a 4 week series with the 4th class being a review class for any questions.
You can drop into the classes at your leisure or you can sign up for the 4 weeks. We are leaving the choice up to you so this makes it easier for you to decide what you want to do.
So if the next question you may have is, “How do I sign up”? Here’s the link: Learn Belly Dancing From Home, and if you have any questions feel free to email me Leyla@leyla-najma.com or call me 505-459-8015.
