The Belly Dance Husband
Sometimes I feel a little guilty because my obsession with dance has taken over my life, family, career and marriage. It’s nothing that I planned on happening when I first started on my belly dancing path. It slowly took hold of me like an intoxicating elixir that took control of all my senses. This also could be said with the same sentiments for all of us who have fallen in love. And this is where my Belly Dance Husband Daniel comes in because never in a million years did I ever think that I would find a man who would totally understand the craziness and maddening chaos that happens in the belly dance world and then get to marry him!! I am counting my lucky stars!!
Let’s look at what happens to the belly dance husband when he first encounters the belly dance scene. Men know that to get along with us that it is very important to sympathize, agree and console us when we whine about problems but add in the belly dance scene and you have drama times ten beyond anything they have ever experienced or imagined. Yes, at times it could be called a nightmare especially when the drama hits the fan. This is where the belly dance husband not only is the hero but he has the comforting shoulders that as time passes slowly by, get an indentation of our faces pressed in them like a mold! If you look closely at a belly dance husband you can see the indentation on both shoulders! This distinguishes him from other husbands.
They go to countless belly dance events, shows and venues and smile big when we are up on stage performing or they are supposed to be. They have to watch numerous dancers perform and listen to music that isn’t always their preference or taste over and over and over again! And when we ask them how we performed, they know from experience how to answer. Yes, the belly dance husband definitely has a place in Heaven. My husband is going for Sainthood!!
So as each one of you read this remember your husband and what you put him through day in and day out. This Holiday season take very good care of him and let him know how thankful you are for him.
To my husband Daniel; Thank you for always being my sounding board and for always telling me how you “really” feel. Thank you for being my very best friend and for understanding how I feel even when I don’t understand myself. Thank you for knowing how I think and for making me feel like the brightest bulb in the socket. Thank you for giving me space and then being there when I wonder why you are giving me so much space. Thank you for just listening and not saying anything. Thank you for being patient with me when I ask you why you aren’t saying anything. Those darn twins in me contradict each other but you know them both so well!! Thank you for thinking belly dancing is worthwhile and that I am the cats meow in dance. But most of all thank you for loving me unconditionally and for showing me what true love is really all about!!!
Ladies, the best present you can give your husbands this Christmas is a hug along with a kiss that says “I love you!”
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays and Blessings to you all!!
