Deja Vu

Today I was editing one of my chapters and low and behold I came across this paragraph that I had written over a year ago.  I thought it was pretty interesting how it correlates to what happened to me last week. So here for the first time I am going to give you a sneak peek of that paragraph because I appreciated your support and sweet words so much! And I must say reading it was like de’ja’ vu all over again but in a good way because my points I believe are valid.

From Leyla Najma’s “The Divine Unrest” / Chapter 16, Choreography in the Box and out of the Box:

With experiences in this dance field that left me wondering, what the hell just happened, it became apparent that the best way to keep the “villainette” at bay is to share these experiences with students. I feel you have to share experiences with students especially those of inappropriate behavior to get across how important it is to have ethics and camaraderie in this dance form. When students are ready to create their own choreographies they need to understand the scope of what it entails but they also need to mix in a little humility. In the end there will be things you like about other peoples dancing and things you won’t. I really feel that if all a dancer can do is mouth off then she creates an excess of indifference and disdain that spreads like a virus. This is where the clicks come in and the community gets broken up into isolated groups. It won’t matter what type of choreography a dancer creates, she won’t be appreciated in her own back yard which basically means her community.

Let me know what you think……..I appreciate your comments more then you know!!!

Hugs to you all,
